The weather forecast was calling for 20"-30". We knew it was going to be a big one. Scott is on pediatric surgery right now, which means he has "24 hour call" every Friday. (I put "24 hour call" in quotes because it's like 34 hour call.) He would undoubtedly be stuck all weekend long at the hospital.
And you know what? I was feeling down in the dumps about it. Thinking about being stuck in the house for three days straight with the boys, and no help from my husband, was exhausting and draining to even imagine.
So, Friday morning, my mom and I had our Bible study together over the phone. We're currently going through A Confident Heart by Renee Swope. I asked my mom to pray for me--that the time Scott was up at the hospital was seeming beyond excessive lately, and I just needed some strength! (I might think that third year of residency is the worst. What the heck!?)
Well, the boys were ready to go outside and play! I couldn't stave them off any longer. So, at 9:15 on Friday morning, we headed out.
They burst into the snow, squealing and laughing.
And then do you know what?
Scott pulled into the driveway! I was BEYOND surprised! He got out and I was like, "What are you doing home!?" One of his co-workers had switched call schedules with him, and he basically was getting the rest of the day Friday and Saturday off! (Surgery residents always work 6 days a week, so this was another BIG deal.)
The first thing I did was say, "Thank You, Lord!" God had answered my prayer! I texted my mom right away.
We enjoyed two blissful days with Daddy at home, and it.was.heavenly!!

A Foggy Hike
Winter took its sweet, slow time in reaching us this year. And we are not complaining! A couple of weeks ago, we were able to go for a hike without jackets, gloves, or hats. {People, in Virginia, this is A BIG DEAL.}
It was very foggy outside! It was sort of eerie, but also very beautiful.
Scott and the boys hiked down to this stream. They got absolutely filthy dirty in the process, but they loved it!
I'm laughing at my children in this picture. Dear Lord!
Oh, I love these guys so much! I'm so grateful for the three of them.
It was a wonderful family hike! I can't wait until these boys are older, and we can go for super long/intense hikes!
