Henry's Birth Story

September 16th, 2016--a sacred, precious day I will never forget. The day Henry Thomas joined our little family! There I was: having some regular contractions, excited and nervous, and so, so ready to be holding my son.

We got to the hospital at 6:45, all ready to check in to Labor & Delivery! I was a little anxious, being in a new hospital I'd never delivered in before.

As soon as I was settled in my bed, Scott surprised me with this gorgeous ring! Three sapphires for our three boys {and Scott said we were the diamonds!}. I couldn't believe how sparkly and beautiful my "push gift" was.

Both of my parents were in town, and my mom stayed with me for most of the day. She was there when Henry was born. Such a special moment!

While the epidural was most definitely the most painful one I've ever received, it was {thank heavens!} the best one I've ever received. I told the anesthesiologist that I wanted to feel everything, but that I just didn't want to feel pain. I mean, I could have walked around the room with that epidural! I could feel every single contraction, they just didn't hurt.

I labored until about 7:00, and I knew the time for pushing was fast approaching. The doctor came in, I pushed for all of five easy minutes, and out came Henry--pink and screaming! He was born at 7:28 PM, weighing 7 pounds 3 ounces and measuring 18 inches long. My heart melted as soon as they put him on my chest. Love at first sight.

I didn't cry until Nathan and Jack came in to meet their little brother. What a special and overwhelming moment! I kept looking at Scott and saying, "I can't believe we have three kids!!"

The boys were overjoyed to meet Henry! Nathan kept singing him lullabies. They both fought over who was holding him. And Jack was making me crack up because he kept saying, "His breath stinks!!"

My mom bought "big brother" shirts for the boys, and they were SO proud to wear them! They didn't take them off for another day and a half! :)

When we arrived at home two days later, this note was on the door, welcoming Henry to his home.

Overall, my easiest delivery {and so far my easiest baby!}. We love you to the moon and back, Henry Thomas!!
