Down To The Wire

Down to the wire.

A phrase that as a grant writer, I'm all too familiar with. But unlike scrambling at the last minute to scan over RFPs, assemble financial documents, and gather needed signatures, this down to the wire is a whole hell of a lot more intimidating.

This down to the wire means get ready, Momma, big change is on the way.

I'm trying so hard to remember everything from the first time around--little things like putting batteries in the swing; sticking a note by the front door that says, "Please do not ring the doorbell. Thank you!"; and turning the volume on the house phones waaaaay down.

I've got my "Pre-Baby To Do List":
      -Buy the toddler's diapers
      -Mani/pedi
-Call Dad to pick up leaves in front yard
      -Charge video camera and camera
      -Pack toddler's bag
      -Pack my bag
      -Finish thank-you notes
      -Mail Xmas cards
      -Clean the car
      -Clean the house
-Pick up toddler's ornament from The Painted Pig
      -Final grocery store run

I'm sure I'm forgetting 39 things, but there it is. My list. Literally.

Yeah, when you're packing bags and charging the video camera, you are down to the wire. It's been hard getting ready with my husband gone flying and driving all over the country, but at least my house has stayed cleaner! (Hehe! Don't worry, he knows it's the truth.)

When I was pregnant with the toddler, I must have packed my bag at least four weeks in advance. And here I am, less than a week away from checking into L&D, and my bag isn't packed. The bag makes it final, and real, and--gulp--scary. Am I ready? Can I handle two??? ;)
